I have read about your experience in Vienna. Planning to go there with my daughter in May and Googled today to find cheap eats…
This Pakistani eatery and pay-what-you-want concept is amazing. And yes, it will not work in our country. I live in PE.

I visited Der Wiener Deewan in July 2012. I got a warm corner near the kitchen. They brought me a glass of water and I expected the worse. The food was spicy, but tasty and I was surprised as hell when they asked me what I wanted to pay. I paid 5 euro. Great eat, great concept. I walked out of there with a big smile on my face. A concept build on trust like this wouldn’t last 1 day in my home South Africa. A great pity I might add.

I went to Der Wiener Deewan today! It was excellent, and cheap. I gave 4 euros. I’m only commenting because I also go to Sarah Lawrence, where I just finished my sophmore year. I also study languages =), if you know Melissa Frazier or Roland. Anyway, thanks for the recommendations!

It’s in Ottakring (16), not in Josefstadt (8). Also, what do you mean, Turkish-inspired? It’s a Turkish restaurant, with Turkish food, run by Turks, staffed by Turks, in an almost exclusively Turkish neighborhood. It’s not Turkish-inspired, it’s Turkish, period. They also have branched out. There are two new Kents, one in Favoriten (10) and one in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus (15), i.e. the two other predominently Turkish areas in Vienna.

I like the cheap food for my trip to Vienna but even if I had dated prices I could calculate the present (?). I just saw rthe website I’ll check the prices. Thank you.
