A good selection to keep one entertained and informed at an easy to take price.
I might add that for art lovers and lovers of the baroque, Rome’s many churches, in addition to St Peter’s, hold impressive collections of paintings and sculpture. Entrance to most is free; to others, the charge is modest.

I will be visiting Rome in October.
Any suggestions for inexpensive eateries in the Vatican City area?
I love pizza, but six days of it can be tiring.

Thanks Debbie and Marcos! 🙂 There are lots you can do in Rome without having to spend a lot of money. That’s what’s so great about this magical city! Magdalena: don’t worry, that’s street is just located off of Via Gregorio VII which is about a 15 minute bus ride from the center (centro) of Rome and a 10 minute bus ride to St. Peter’s Square…it’s actually a great neighborhood!

Just to clarify even by taking the elevator up to the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, you still have to climb approx. 320 steps. So using the elevator only saves you approx. 170 steps.

We got very good seats. The first several rows in the hall are reserved seats for special groups. We managed to get into the third row of the unreserved section. Our early arrival paid off!

My wife and I recently got back from a week in Rome. We attended the Wednesday general audience while we were there. The Pope offers his blessing to all who attend, but it’s not a mass. However, the audience hall is quite close to St. Peter’s Basilica, where there are several masses each day.

We arrived at 8:30 for the audience, and the hall was nearly packed by 9:15. Note that a ticket will get you into the hall, but it won’t necessarily get you a seat!
