Thanks for posting your memories of Cyprus. It sounds like you had a wonderful and memorable trip.

I think you’re right — we should at least put together a “mini-guide” to Cyprus, with a couple of hotel picks. I’ll add it to the list!

All the best,
Tom

I was fortunate to be able to attend a wedding in Cyprus this Spring in Xylafagou. The American contingent stayed at the Malama Resort nearby. It was a fantastic experience. I understand completely your remarks about the political situation. As you probably know the town of Xylafagou was built in the 1970 by residents of a whole village displaced from the north. The grooms parents were wed in a refugee tent around that time. So you can imagine the conversations. About half of the Cypriots were able to speak English. The groom’s uncle was educated in a school that taught English, and he was a great help. We stayed mostly in the southeastern part of Cyprus but were able to get to Ayia Napa, Agios Minas, and Lefkara where I bought some lace and silver.

The wedding was so beautiful. We were able to partake of all the customs, from the dressing of the bride and groom, to the walk to the church, the Greek Orthodox ceremony and the fun reception with dancing and all.

The weather while we were there was picture perfect. I have many pictures like the ones you have shown. I would be glad to send you some if you like?

I had mentioned to Tom Meyers that I was going. He said that he was not familiar with any places there. EuroCheapo should extend to Cyprus. There were quite a few European families staying at Malama, which was very nice by the way. I was interested to note the number of British residents owning restaurants and small businesses. And since you are on board and visit frequently maybe that will happen.

It was certainly an experience I will never forget.
Sincerely, Jan Scagnetti

PS. as to the food and hospitality, it is unmatched anywhere!
