Amazing how the ladies of Florence seem to coordinate the colors of their outfits with that of their little scooters. And on a hot Florentine night, you, too, may be lured by a mime into a moonlight charade upon the cobblestones of a nearby square. Walk around mumbling, “I can’t believe I’m doing this.”

This is good. It seemed I wrote my name on countless American Express bills before checking out. Nor was the breakfast memorable. What was cool, though. were the deep bedroom windows which looked out onto a brick building across the alley. Perfect for a tall sunflower. And just outside, on a cobblestone square, I was invited by a mime to participate in a moonlight fantasy. I remember the faces of children whom their parents had brought to witness this ritual. They were very solemn when I got to pass the hat. I kept saying, “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” Later, the mime and I exchanged sweaty hugs. I called him Wunderkind. And he was.
