The year 2021 sounds like a return to basics, even in the world of cosmetics. It is no longer just a matter of giving up makeup on the pretext of wearing a mask but allowing the skin to better defend itself against external aggressions. Something made easier by the arrival of new active ingredients, prebiotics and probiotics, which are about to upset your beauty routine. Explanations.
You may not have known it, but yoghurts, blue cheeses, pickles, and even sauerkraut are full of probiotic bacteria which, consumed in sufficient quantity, prove to be beneficial for your health. The latter is now available in certain cosmetics to the delight of our skin, which will (finally) receive the necessary active ingredients to repair the damage of the past and (re)learn how to defend itself against future attacks—a real revolution.
But what is it?
Before jumping on the first skincare ray, it is essential to know what probiotics are and their benefits for the skin. “Probiotics are what we call good bacteria. They are found alive in food, but we cannot bring them in cosmetics. Therefore, they are fragments of good bacteria that we also sometimes called postbiotics”, explains Sophie Strobel, a biologist specializing in cosmetology.
